Acupuncture is one of the oldest and most commonly used medical procedures in the world. There is some argument in the traditional medical community that Acupuncture is probably about 5,000 to 7,000 years old.
However other put this to be about 2000 to 3000 years old. After its origin in ancient China, acupuncture has evolved over 2 millennia, both through refinements based on treatment responses and through adaptations to changing social needs and situations. The name acupuncture is derives from Latin and means puncturing (pungere / punctura) with needles (acu). From China its use spread throughout ancient Egypt, the Middle East, Roman Empire and later into Western Europe as merchants and missionaries to China told of the amazing discoveries the people of the Orient had developed. The most influential impact on the development of 20th-century acupuncture was the work of George Soulie de Morant, a scholar-diplomat engaged in the French diplomatic service in China between 1901 and 1917.
