Alexander therapy is effective for a variety of conditions from musculoskeletal pain to learning problems, whether you are a musician or a secretary, lessons of Alexander teaching remain fundamentally the same: You will be guided through simple movements and learn to develop more control in your activities. The Alexander Technique is not a passive treatment like many other branches of medicine and needs the active cooperation and coordination of the patient. It is ideal for persons interested in working towards his or her goals with increased awareness and practical intelligence. Alexander Technique does not treat specific symptoms, but you can develop a marked improvement in overall health, alertness, and performance by consciously eliminating harmful habits that cause physical and emotional stress, and by becoming more aware of how you engage in your activities. There are many prominent figures who have recognized the efficiency of the Alexander technique. This includes American educational philosopher John Dewey, Aldous Huxley, George Bernard Shaw, and Nobel-prize-winning scientist Nikolaas Tinbergen.
The Alexander Technique is an intelligent way to solve body problems. If given the insight, many people would be mystified by their own back pain, excess tension or lack of coordination. They often see problems in their joints or muscles as structural, unchangeable. Over-tensed neck muscles that interfere with the free movement of the head in relationship to the spine may be responsible for many of our postural problems. If this freedom of mobility is impaired it will be impossible to obtain any lasting relaxation of the whole body. The head balance lightly on top of the spine is the essential part of the freedom of movement. This would relax our spine free our joints and muscles with minimum of excess tension.
