Alexander technique was created by F. Matthias Alexander (1869-1955) in 1980s. He was an Australian actor and teacher who originally developed the Alexander Technique as a method of vocal training for singers and actors. Alexander suggested that breathing and vocalization are part and parcel of how the body functions as a whole and habitual breathing and vocal patterns are parts of habitual patterns of general coordination. He proposed that the problems and difficulties faced by many people in learning, control of performance, and in physical functioning are caused by unconscious habits. The believed that these habits interfere with your natural poise and our capacity to learn. He proposed that when we stop interfering with the innate coordination of the body, we could take on more complex activities with greater self-confidence and presence of mind.
