Photographers Sue Denise Richards and Pamela Anderson

Photographers Sue Denise Richards and Pamela Anderson
Two freelance photographers who claim to have been verbally and physically abused have filed a lawsuit against celebrity pals Denise Richards and Pamela Anderson.

According to the lawsuit filed by snappers Scott Cosman and Rik Fedyck, Richards abused the two men for 20 minutes and physically assaulted them at the River Rock Casino Resort in Vancouver, Canada. The shutterbugs were trying to take pics of the two high headed celebrities on the set of upcoming movie Blonde & Blonder last year (Nov 06).

The photographers claim that Richards called them paparazzi scum and even snatched away their laptops and threw them over the (hotel) balcony and one of them even struck an elderly woman in a wheelchair. The photographers claim that the confrontation was recorded by the hotel security cameras.

In the lawsuit, Cosman and Fedyck even claim that Richards and Anderson, then falsely reported the Royal Canadian Mounted Police that the photographers had engaged in criminal activity. As a result of the statement the two were captivated for three days.

The damages seeked are not yet public, but the photographers have sued the two celebs for the loss of revenue when clients abandoned them and emotional stress caused.

Those who've taken to reading e-Cahiers du Cinema can supplement this month's cover package on Jacques Rivette's Don't Touch the Axe with a new round of additions to Order of the Exile, which include Rivette's "Letter on Rossellini," new, or rather, vintage interviews and essays, all of which can, of course, be savored with or without the Cahiers.

"The most profound artistic statement made on music's new role in post-war, post-modern America did not come from a musician or writer," writes Eric Harvey at Pitchfork. "It came from Alfred Hitchcock, who in the 1950s was entering what would become the most significant creative peak of any American-based film director. Rear Window is frequently cited as one of his greatest works, but conversations regarding its profound social comment are typically restricted to voyeurism. There is, of course, plenty to talk about in that regard, but Hitchcock's incorporation of popular music into every square inch of the film's imagined urban courtyard setting adds intriguing depth and complexity to the conversation."

Brooklyn Rail. March 07.

Brooklyn Rail. March 07.
"Unlike most Japanese filmmakers more familiar in the West, Shohei Imamura was 'interested in the relationship of the lower part of the human body and the lower part of the social structure,'" writes David Wilentz in the March issue of the Brooklyn Rail. "Imamura focuses on the seemingly animalistic, often criminal lower strata of Japanese society without passing judgment, meticulously observing human nature for its own primal sake." The Brooklyn Academy of Music retrospective runs through March 29.

David N Meyer on Exterminating Angels: "Director Jean-Claude Brisseau pursues his deconstructivist-French-person-pondering-the-sexual-mysteries intellectual agenda straight-up. Unlike Catherine Breillat's explicit mega-downer Anatomy of Hell or her merely annoying Sex Is Comedy, Brisseau does not present his Big Questions interwoven into the drama. Here, they are the drama."

"I was in Rome in 1960 just as La Dolce Vita was happening and met [Federico] Fellini, Alberto Moravia, [Luchino] Visconti and [Paolo] Pasolini. Then I went to model in New York in 1963 and hung out with Andy Warhol and all the Pop artists, and met the Beat poets. And then I went to Paris."

The release of Performance on DVD gives Anita Pallenberg ample opportunity to tell the Independent's Chris Sullivan a few stories about its making.

Doug Cummings on Roberto Rossellini's India: "Godard once mentioned it in the same breath with Eisenstein's Que Viva Mexico, Murnau's Tabu, and Welles's It's All True; like those works, it's a loving tribute to a foreign land by a traveling artist."

Virtual racing games linked to risk taking

Virtual racing games linked to risk taking
Psychology experts have taken the "media priming" effects of popular video console and PC-based games on the road, finding that virtual racing seems to lead to aggressive driving and a propensity for risk taking. Extending previous findings on how aggressive virtual-shooter games increase aggression-related thoughts, feelings and behaviors, scientists at Munich's Ludwig-Maximilians University and the Allianz Center for Technology observed that of 198 men and women, those who play more virtual car-racing games were more likely to report that they drive aggressively and get in accidents. Less frequent virtual racing was linked to more cautious driving.

The findings are reported in the recent issue of the Journal of Experimental Psychology: Applied, which is published by the American Psychological Association.

Linking media priming effects the way virtual aggression can lead to the real thing -- to behavior, a second study observed that men who played even one virtual racing game subsequently took significantly higher risks in critical traffic situations on a computer simulator than did men who played a neutral game. Sixty-eight men were in this study.

Finally, the scientists assigned 83 men to play either typical racing or neutral games on a Sony Playstation. In the racing games, say the authors, "To win, participants had to massively violate traffic rules (e.g., drive on the sidewalk, crash into other cards, drive at high speed)." Those who raced subsequently reported a significantly higher accessibility of thoughts and feelings associated with risk-taking than did those who played a neutral game.........

Fans Check out a Nude Daniel Radcliffe with Binoculars!

Fans Check out a Nude Daniel Radcliffe with Binoculars!
The verdict is out: Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe is hot. At least, hot for a 17 year old. Dont think so? Go watch West End play Equus at London’s Gielgud Theatre.

The promise of a naked Harry Potter has seen a tidal wave of celebrities and fans rushing to see the play. Daniel takes it all off for his role as Alan Strang, a disturbed stable lad, and he and his co-star Joanna Christie perform a naked sex scene in front of a 980-strong audience. Radcliffe is also cavorting naked for a full 10 minutes and simulating sex while riding a horse played by a male ballet dancer!

Some of those sitting at the back of the theatre have even resorted to using binoculars to get a better view of all the steamy action.

The play has received rave reviews, but not everyone is pleased about Harry Potter getting hot and steamy. Executives from Warner Bros, who make the Harry Potter films, were reportedly ‘utterly dismayed’ about Daniel’s steamy scenes.

Ashley Simpson: Ugly Duckling?

Ashley Simpson: Ugly Duckling?
Ashley Simpson revealed that she used to feel like an ugly duckling next to big sis Jessica Simpson.

The now-brunette-now-blonde singer, 22, felt the pressure of constantly being compared to her beautiful and successful sibling. The comparisons went into overdrive when Ashley embarked on her own singing career, seriously affecting her self esteem. Ashleys response: Her new nose, courtesy a plastic surgeon.

A source told Britain’s Bliss magazine:

Ashlee has always been cute but for a long time she felt like the ugly duckling of the family compared to Jessica.

Every time she looked in the mirror, she saw a too-prominent nose, and she decided to do something about it. She was thrilled with the results. She basically had the bump on her nose shaved down.

Never mind that fact that Ashley angrily denounced Hollywoods twisted view of feminine beauty” in Marie Claire magazine just a month before going under the scalpel herself.

A nose job and a brand spanking new image later, Ashleys career soared, while Jessicas seems to have hit a wall. The turnaround has reportedly put a strain on the Simpson sisterhood.

The source added:

Ashlee could see that her career was taking off, while many would say that Jessica’s was on the way down.

Sadly, the two sisters have had some disagreements and it’s all to do with Ashlee’s success. Being on stage in Chicago in London was a huge move for Ashlee and Jessica was very jealous - she even confided to friends that she thought Ashee’s new look was trampy.

Cheer up Ashley. You were only named as one of the Hottest Women in Pop/R&B” by Blender magazine in 2007.
