Disappointed With Senate Bill
IEEE-USA is disappointed that the comprehensive immigration reform bill passed by the U.S. Senate on Thursday expands the annual H-1B visa cap from 65,000 to 115,000, adds an automatic cap escalator and includes a new exemption for foreign nationals with high-tech graduate degrees without strengthening safeguards for foreign and domestic technology workers.
IEEE-USA President Ralph W. Wyndrum, Jr. said: "We don't understand why the Senate wants to expand a program that numerous government reports have found leaves U.S and foreign workers open to exploitation. Fraud, abuse and misuse of the visas is rampant. The program should be fixed before it is expanded."
Combined with the H-1B visa increases, the Senate bill also includes substantial increases in legal permanent immigrant admissions that could have a major impact on the U.S. information technology workforce and engineering enterprise, as per IEEE-USA.
Dr. Wyndrum added: "The bill opens the spigot on numerous skilled visa categories. The question is how a number of high-tech workers can the United States absorb annually without driving up unemployment and driving down wages? The Senate demonstrated its concern about the number of unskilled workers it would allow into our country; it should show the same concern for skilled employees."........

Go Digital!
It seems like yesterday when I made my first attempt at finding an affordable digital multi-track recorder for my small home recording studio. Needing to replace my outdated 4 track analog recorder, I searched quite awhile for a reasonably priced recorder. Finally, I was able to find a digital recorder with most of the features I was looking for.
I was amazed at the capabilities of this machine; the clarity of sound it duplicated and the ease of operation were fantastic. My music mixes never sounded better.
Every month or so, some new technological invention, particularly in the digital realm, appears on the market. For today's young people, it is common place to have at their disposal anything they find appealing.
For some of us "older folks" to say the least, we are amazed, at times, even overwhelmed by all the "techno" gizmos on the market. I feel like a kid in a candy store when I research all the new devices out there, but I am a rare bird for my age and sex. I'm one of the very few women who pine over "electronics" instead of the latest fashion craze.
I constantly search the internet for information on all the new products. I want them all, but can only afford a few of these new devices. But, when narrowing down my choices, I commonly opt to keep up with all the music related products for enjoyable listening and more efficient and advanced ways to take my music and recording to the next level.........

Volkswagen On The No-No Juice
Autoblog reports: Volkswagen Eos starts under $28K, rises to nearly $40K. Come on! COME ON! Look, Veedub, we've talked about this before. We all know you can build a kick-ass car. We loved the Phaeton. LOVE.
But folks don't want a spendy VW. The W8 Passat didn't sell, the Phaeton didn't sell. Do you really think a (very sweet, we might add) $40k Eos is going to sell? Now before you start in with the, "But it's only $28k" line, how a number of of the $28 dealies you going to commit building? Oh, we thought so. Look, it'll be a very good car. But it'll be pricey and that's not what people are looking for from you.........

Ford Hiding
AutoWeek reports: Ford 'war rooms' deflect potshots at pickups. Sure seems like when the going gets tough, Ford runs to its room yelling, "I wish you weren't our parents!" Come on! A play room where Ford doesn't have to hear anything bad about its products?.
How about making kick-ass cars and trucks rather than making a hiding place. We like forts, too, but we're not kids anymore. Well, Ford isn't. We, however, reserve the right to have forts made out of couch cushions, ships made out of the ottoman, and tents made out of sheets. In each of these places, your criticisms have no affect and, in fact, bounce off of us and stick to you! Ha! Eat that, critics!........

Swap Your CDs
If you have a bunch of CDs, DVDs, or Video Games lying around collecting dust then you could probably just sell them - but have you ever considered trading them for other discs? SwitchDiscs allows you to communicate with other people who want to trade their stuff via a legal peer-to-peer trading network.
There is no cash required trading, instead "SwitchBucs" are used for a credit system. However, you can optionally purchase SwitchBucs as well. Overall it's an interesting system, but personally I would rather sell my media on eBay or Half.com, but I'm sure many people would prefer this method - especially becuase there are no fees involved. ........

3DTV A Reality In Millions Of Homes?
Looking to make 3DTV a reality in millions of homes around the world is the dizzying ambition of Hungarian high-growth company, Holografika.
Holografika supplies a proprietary 3D holographic display technology, called the HoloVizio- system, which provides multiple viewers with a natural 3D view without the need for special glasses or tracking equipment.
How does HoloVizio- work? Well, for starters, it is not the same as so-called auto-stereoscopic 3D systems, developed by companies such as Sharp, which involve showing a viewer two slightly different 2D images - one for the left eye and one for the right eye - and the viewer's brain fusing them to produce a single perceived 3D image.
Holografika's approach aims to mimic that of a viewer looking straight out of a conventional window - which is essentially a 2D object - but nevertheless perceiving the outside environment as a perfect 3D image. In this situation, the viewer perceives a 3D effect because the light patterns at each point on the window change subtly as per what is behind it and the angle it is being viewed.
Consequently, HoloVizio- involves a viewer looking at a 'digital window'. Tibor Balogh, Holografika's CEO and Founder, explains: "It uses a holographic screen. When beams inside the device strike the screen, each point of the holoscreen is able to emit light beams of a different colour and intensity in different directions".........
